Health officials crack down on rule violations as inspections reveal serious hygiene and safety lapses in paying guest accommodations across Chickpet and Shivajinagar.

In a major enforcement drive, Bengaluru Central City Corporation officials sealed six paying guest (PG) accommodations and imposed a total fine of ₹1.96 lakh for violating basic hygiene and safety norms.

The action followed a large-scale inspection conducted across the central city limits under the leadership of Health Officer Dr. Shivakumar. Officials from the Chickpet and Shivajinagar health divisions were also part of the inspection team.

Authorities inspected 204 PG accommodation establishments during the drive. Of these, six were found to be operating in unhygienic conditions and in clear violation of civic and health regulations. As a result, these PGs were immediately shut down and penalised.

During inspections, officials checked for several mandatory requirements, including the availability of safe drinking water, overall cleanliness, kitchen hygiene, proper sanitation facilities, and general safety measures. The presence of functional toilets, fire safety equipment, and CCTV camera installations was also verified.

In addition, PG operators were asked to produce FSSAI food safety certificates, which are compulsory for establishments providing food to residents. Several of the sealed PGs failed to meet these standards.

Health officials stated that such inspections will continue to ensure that paying guest accommodations provide safe, clean, and secure living conditions, especially for students and working professionals who depend on these facilities.

The civic body has warned PG operators to strictly comply with health, hygiene, and safety norms, failing which strict action, including closure and financial penalties, will follow.
