A 37-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were killed instantly after a private college bus hit them on Viveknagar Main Road while they were heading to school on Monday morning.
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of a 37-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son on Viveknagar Main Road in Bengaluru on January 19 morning. The victims were knocked down by a private college bus, allegedly driven at high speed, resulting in their death on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Sangeetha and her son Parth, residents of Ejipura. The incident occurred at around 7.15 a.m., when Sangeetha was crossing the busy road with her son while heading to Army Public School. Sangeetha was employed at the same school, and Parth was a student there.
According to the police, the private college bus came at high speed and hit the mother and child while they were crossing the road. Due to the severity of the impact, both victims died instantly. The bus driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle at the accident spot and escaped immediately after the incident.
The Ashok Nagar Traffic Police reached the scene, seized the bus, and launched a search for the absconding driver. The bodies were shifted to Bowring Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case against the driver under sections related to hit-and-run, death due to negligence, and rash and negligent driving. Investigators stated that the accident was caused due to the driver’s carelessness and overspeeding.
West Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anoop Shetty confirmed that a complaint has been registered at the Ashok Nagar Traffic Police Station and assured that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver at the earliest.
