In a proactive move to manage the upcoming festive and long-weekend rush, the Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) has devised an extensive travel plan following an analysis of travel patterns and waitlist trends. Aiming to accommodate the heightened demand during Deepavali and Chhath Pooja, SWR has announced the operation of 136 special trains (spanning 338 trips) and the addition of 540 extra coaches.
This year’s plan far exceeds last year’s efforts, with over 95 special trains running during the Deepavali season, more than double the 36 trains operated in 2024. Trains have been deployed to key destinations within Karnataka—Belagavi, Hubballi, Bidar, and Mysuru, among others—as well as long-distance routes to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other regions.
20 trains to cater to travelers heading to northern cities
In addition, the division has introduced 20 trains to cater to travelers heading to Patna, Danapur, and other northern cities, with further services extended to places like Howrah, Rishikesh, and Tinsukia. Special trains have also been arranged for destinations such as Narsapur, Visakhapatnam, and Bhubaneswar.
To ensure a smooth and safe journey, SWR has set up exclusive holding areas at major stations, including SMVT Bengaluru, KSR Bengaluru, and Yesvantpur. Enhanced security, medical teams, help desks, and live train updates are part of the initiative to improve the travel experience for passengers.
