With vehicle numbers surging and congestion hitting global headlines, Bengaluru traffic police and GBA prepare to restart towing operations across the city.
Bengaluru is set to witness the return of towing operations, as city authorities move to tackle growing traffic congestion and rampant illegal parking. Officials have urged motorists to remain alert before parking vehicles, warning that strict enforcement will resume soon.
The city is grappling with an uncontrolled rise in the number of vehicles, leading to severe traffic congestion on major roads and interior stretches alike. Illegal and careless parking has emerged as a major contributor, frequently blocking free movement of traffic and causing daily inconvenience to commuters.

In several parts of Bengaluru, vehicles parked indiscriminately have become a serious obstacle to smooth traffic flow. Managing this situation has turned into a constant challenge for traffic police personnel, who are struggling to regulate traffic amid limited road space and high vehicle density.
In response, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) along with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, is preparing to deploy towing vehicles once again as a strong deterrent against unauthorised parking. The move aims to ease congestion and restore order on busy city roads.
Bengaluru’s traffic woes have also attracted global attention. According to the 2025 Traffic Index Report released by Netherlands-based navigation company TomTom, Bengaluru ranked as the second most congested city in the world.

The report revealed that in 2025, Bengaluru recorded an average traffic congestion level of 74.4%. In comparison, the congestion level stood at 72.7% in 2024, indicating a 1.7% increase within just one year. The findings underline the urgency of strict measures to control traffic and parking violations.
With towing set to resume, authorities hope the action will discourage illegal parking and help reduce Bengaluru’s growing traffic burden.
