Transport bandh: Partial services continue in Bengaluru amid demands for pay revision and job security

Transport workers press for wage revision, arrears, and better working conditions; limited BMTC services seen in early hours, with more disruptions likely post 6 AM.

The statewide bus strike intensified on Monday as transport workers, under the Joint Action Committee leadership of Anant Subbarao, reiterated their long-pending demands, including salary revision, 38-month arrears, and the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.

Despite the strike call, BMTC buses were seen operating briefly from around 4:30 AM in key hubs like Majestic, Shantinagar, and K R Market. However, these were largely night-shift services, and morning services remain uncertain. Officials expect a brief halt in operations after 6 AM, as many drivers and conductors are likely to join the protest.

The demands include periodic salary revision every four years, withdrawal of cases against employees and their families, reinstatement of suspended staff from previous protests, and better medical and canteen facilities. Workers have also strongly opposed the privatization of electric bus maintenance and are demanding that only corporation drivers be deployed for them.

As uncertainty looms, passengers across the city have already begun relying heavily on Namma Metro and private transport.
