Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj dumped garbage outside the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) office, condemning the agency’s failure in waste management and calling its actions “autocratic and irresponsible.”
A high-voltage drama unfolded outside the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) headquarters near Hudson Circle on Tuesday afternoon when Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj staged a symbolic protest against the city’s waste management system.
Carrying a sack full of garbage, Nagaraj arrived at the GBA office and dumped the waste right outside the gate, declaring it a mark of protest against the authority’s “autocratic behaviour.” Police intervened immediately, stopping him and seizing the garbage sack, which led to a heated exchange.

Speaking to the media, Nagaraj lashed out at the GBA, accusing it of failing to manage the city’s garbage collection system while punishing ordinary citizens. “You throw garbage in front of our houses, and when we do the same, you call it wrong? This is hypocrisy,” he said angrily.

He criticised the GBA’s decision to penalise residents by dumping back waste in front of their homes, calling it an “uncivilised and humiliating act.” Nagaraj further warned that if the civic body failed to stop this practice within a week, he would dump garbage in front of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s residences.
“This is arrogance and negligence. The government is insulting citizens instead of improving waste collection. If needed, I’ll move the High Court and file a defamation case against the officials,” he added.

The protest gathered attention from the public, many of whom expressed frustration over the city’s recurring garbage crisis. Nagaraj demanded that the GBA take full responsibility for garbage clearance rather than blaming residents.
