The couple, who had an elaborate wedding on May 26, 2024, were considered an ideal pair, both young doctors working at the same hospital. But beneath the façade of a happy marriage, resentment and deceit brewed.
Kruthika had long battled health issues, including gastritis, indigestion, and low sugar. Her family allegedly concealed these conditions before marriage, a fact Mahendra discovered later. As her health deteriorated with frequent vomiting and fatigue, he allegedly began to distance himself and ultimately plotted her murder.
According to police investigations, Mahendra administered intravenous medication containing anaesthetic substances over two days, under the pretext of treatment. On April 23, 2025, Kruthika collapsed at home. Though her parents rushed her to a private hospital, she was declared dead on arrival.
Initially treated as a natural death, the case took a turn when forensic experts detected anaesthesia traces in the postmortem samples. The FSL report confirmed that anaesthesia overdose caused her death, leading investigators to file a murder case and arrest Mahendra from Manipal.
