O+ blood requirement ignored, A+ blood administered; patient shifted to ICU as hospital promises strict action against lab technician.
A serious case of alleged medical negligence has come to light at Jayanagar Public Hospital in Bengaluru, where a patient’s condition turned critical after he was reportedly given the wrong blood group during treatment.
The patient, identified as Puneeth Surya, had approached the hospital complaining of a severe headache. After medical examination, doctors diagnosed him with anaemia and advised an immediate blood transfusion. According to family members, Puneeth’s blood group is O positive, but hospital staff allegedly transfused A positive blood, leading to severe complications.

As soon as the incompatible blood entered his system, Puneeth’s health reportedly deteriorated rapidly, forcing doctors to shift him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU. Hospital sources and family members have stated that Puneeth is now slowly returning to a stable condition, and his recovery is being closely monitored.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from the patient’s relatives, who have accused the hospital staff and laboratory personnel of gross negligence. The error has been attributed to lab technician Umesh, against whom a formal complaint has been lodged at the Tilak Nagar Police Station.
Family members alleged that when questioned, the lab technician gave an irresponsible response, reportedly stating that he had not been granted leave and dismissing the incident by saying that “no life was lost.” This response further angered the patient’s family, who raised serious objections against the hospital authorities.
Parents and relatives also expressed outrage against the hospital management, accusing them of treating the lives of poor patients casually. Following the backlash, the hospital administration assured that strict action would be taken and stated that lab technician Umesh would be suspended shortly.
Police have registered the complaint and further action is expected based on the investigation.
