New six-coach rake to enter service by mid-February; seventh train induction next week to ease peak-hour rush
Namma Metro’s Yellow Line, which connects key IT hubs in Bengaluru, is set for a major operational boost with the arrival of its eighth trainset shortly after Sankranthi. The new rake is expected to significantly reduce waiting time for commuters, especially during peak hours.
The six-coach trainset, manufactured by Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), was dispatched on Thursday night. Officials said the train is likely to reach the Hebbagodi depot in Bengaluru soon after January 15.
Once it arrives, the rake will undergo the mandatory 750-kilometre trial run on the mainline. After completing safety checks and testing, it is expected to be inducted into passenger service by mid-February. With this addition, peak-hour train frequency on the Yellow Line is likely to come down to 10 minutes or less, offering much-needed relief to daily commuters.
In parallel, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is preparing to induct the seventh trainset, which had arrived in the city on December 18. This train is currently undergoing mainline testing and is expected to be pressed into service in the coming week.
Officials said the induction of the seventh train alone will help improve peak-hour frequency to around 10–11 minutes, while non-peak hour services are also expected to become more frequent.
The Yellow Line runs from RV Road to Bommasandra, covering major employment and IT corridors of the city. With the gradual addition of trainsets, BMRCL aims to stabilise operations and improve reliability on this crucial stretch.
