A software professional who relocated from Pune to Bengaluru despite a 40% salary hike has sparked a debate about the city’s rising cost of living. The man, who earns ₹25 lakh per annum, claimed that his increased salary still feels inadequate for a comfortable life in India's IT capital.

The discussion gained attention after he shared his experience on a social media platform. He highlighted that while Pune offered a more affordable lifestyle, Bengaluru's soaring rents, high traffic, and overall expenses make it difficult to maintain a decent standard of living. He noted that rental prices in Bengaluru are exceptionally high, particularly in areas preferred by tech professionals.
Many users echoed his concerns, stating that while Bengaluru offers higher salaries, the savings potential is significantly lower due to expensive housing, food, and transportation. Some suggested that cities like Pune or Hyderabad provide better work-life balance with lower living costs.
This debate comes amid rising real estate prices in Bengaluru, particularly in IT hubs where professionals are forced to spend a significant portion of their income on housing. As more companies call employees back to the office, the demand for rental properties has further driven up costs.
For many professionals, Bengaluru remains a top destination for career growth, but at a steep financial price.
