Bengaluru’s Jayanagar celebrates its diamond jubilee

Jayanagar, one of the most happening places of Bengaluru celebrates its 75^th year on August 20, 2023.

The foundation stone for Jayanagar was laid, a year after India gained its independence from the British rule, on August 20, 1948.

Jayanagar that was a cluster of villages around five decades ago has today developed into a shopping hub and a preferred neighbourhood to live in, in the city of Bengaluru.

Jayanagar was known as one of the earliest planned residential areas of Bengaluru post India’s independence.

People living in Jayanagar area for more than five decades shared their views on how the Jayanagar had evolved into an area of what it is today.

Jayanagar 3^rd and 4^th block have become the most preferred shopping hubs of Bengaluru. Jayanagar is also home to many well-known celebrities and officials.

Jayanagar is one of the most preferred residential area with numerous commercial establishments, educational institutions, eateries, posh hotels and many places of worship.

Residents say that Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), Bangalore City Corporation, and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) were instrumental in developing Jayanagar into what it is today.

Jayanagar area comprises of 10 blocks with an additional Fourth T (Tayappa) block.

National College, Nanda Theatre and City Library are some of the oldest iconic landmarks in Jayanagar.
