The International Flower Auction Bengaluru (IFAB) reports that since February 1, around six lakh stemmed roses have been sold or auctioned daily. Bengaluru’s roses are prized for their vibrant colors, long stems, and extended vase life—attributes enhanced by the city’s favorable climate and advanced floriculture techniques.
Apart from Valentine’s demand, weddings across India are also driving sales. Export shipments typically peak between February 7 and 11, and this year is no exception. Growers are seeing strong demand, with prices rising.
The price of a single-stemmed rose has surged by 75%, from ₹8 last year to ₹14 this season, boosting export revenue. Rose production has also increased by 20%, according to the Global Flower Council of India.
While European nations remain key buyers due to winter-induced supply shortages, Malaysia and Singapore have emerged as top importers this year. Despite rising export costs, Bengaluru’s domestic market is thriving, fueled by both Valentine’s and wedding season demand.
With peak sales expected on February 11 and 12, Bengaluru’s rose industry is poised for a record-breaking season.
