Bengaluru’s traffic burden is expected to ease with the opening of a crucial 21-km stretch of the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) between Hoskote and the Tamil Nadu border by March 2025. This section will serve as a key link to the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway (NE-7), improving interstate connectivity and reducing congestion.

The STRR, spanning approximately 288 km upon full completion, aims to encircle Bengaluru, providing an alternative route for commercial vehicles and long-distance travelers. Designed to alleviate urban traffic, the project will also enhance logistics efficiency and cut travel time between major cities.
The Hoskote-TN border segment will feature six lanes, an 11-meter-wide median, 11 underpasses, and a rail overbridge at Lingadeeramallasandra, expected to be ready very soon. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated tenders for the remaining 144.25 km, with an estimated cost of ₹4,749 crore.
Future developments include the STRR’s passage through the Bannerghatta National Park eco-sensitive zone with an 8.1-km elevated highway to minimize environmental impact. The entire expressway, expected to be completed by December 2025 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), will span 280.8 km at a projected cost of ₹17,000 crore, offering a design speed of 100 km/h.
Once operational, the STRR is set to transform Bengaluru’s road network by diverting heavy traffic, improving interstate connectivity, and streamlining transportation.
