The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has been awarded the prestigious ‘Charge India 2024 Excellence’ award in recognition of its pioneering efforts in establishing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and promoting sustainable mobility in Karnataka. The award was presented at a ceremony organized by the Emobility Community, celebrating achievements in the electric mobility sector.

Karnataka currently leads the nation in EV charging infrastructure, boasting a total of 5,765 charging stations—the highest in India. Remarkably, 85% of these stations, or 4,462, are located in Bengaluru, reinforcing the city’s role as a hub for EV adoption and eco-friendly initiatives.

Mahantesh Bilagi, Managing Director of BESCOM, reportedly expressed pride and gratitude upon receiving the award, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable development. “Receiving this award is an honour for BESCOM, and it further elevates our responsibility. Karnataka has emerged as a leader in EV infrastructure, providing unparalleled charging facilities under the guidance of Energy Minister K.J. George,” Bilagi remarked.

This recognition highlights BESCOM’s dedication to transforming Karnataka’s urban landscape by making EV charging accessible and promoting the shift toward cleaner, more sustainable modes of transport. As Karnataka’s infrastructure for EVs continues to grow, BESCOM remains at the forefront of the state’s green transition, supporting India’s goals toward a low-carbon future.
