Kumar, who was working in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, was found hanging from a tree in his native village. A detailed suicide note recovered at the scene reveals that he had been threatened by a man identifying himself as Vikram Goswami. The caller accused Kumar of being involved in a legal case and warned of a "digital arrest," an intimidating tactic used to create panic and force compliance.
The fraudster manipulated Kumar by claiming there was an arrest warrant issued against him and instructed him to transfer large sums of money to evade imprisonment. Multiple account numbers were shared with Kumar, and he was coerced into transferring a total of Rs 11 lakh under duress.
The suicide note paints a disturbing picture of relentless harassment, manipulation, and psychological pressure by the fraudsters, which ultimately drove Kumar to take his own life. His case is yet another grim reminder of the rising menace of cybercrime and the devastating consequences it can have on unsuspecting individuals.
Local police from MK Doddi initially investigated the scene and registered a case. The matter has since been handed over to the Cyber Crime (CEN) Police Station for a deeper probe into the fraud network and its operators.
