In Bhopal, a 28-year-old man named Sachin killed his live-in partner, Ritika Sen, after an argument turned violent. The two had been living together in a rented room in TT Nagar for six months.

According to police, the couple had frequent fights, and on the night of June 30, things escalated. Sachin suspected Ritika of cheating. Out of anger, he strangled her with his hands. After she stopped breathing, he wrapped her body in a blanket and pushed it under the bed.

What’s even more disturbing is that he stayed in that same room for two days, sleeping next to the bed where her body lay, pretending everything was normal. He didn’t tell anyone, until he got drunk with a friend and ended up confessing. At first, his friend didn’t believe it, then later when his friend realised it wasn’t a joke he immediately informed the police at 5pm on Monday.

Interestingly alcohol played a strange role in this case. While it usually leads people to lose control, this time it made Sachin speak the truth. Sometimes when someone is drunk, their hidden feelings or guilt come out. It doesn’t make what he did right but in that moment, alcohol made him face what he had done and confess it. It doesn’t excuse the crime but it shows how substances can sometimes strip away the lies people tell themselves.

He is in custody for murder. The post-mortem is yet to be done, and the investigation is still going on.
