46-year-old Partha Sinhgray belonging to Santaragachi, 32-year-old Molaya Sarkar belonging to Baguhaty and 38-year-old Sudipta Sinha Ray belonging to South Kolkata have all been arrested for scamming a 72-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, Avinash Kumar Shukla with an offer to sell a magical mirror which would showcase the nude version of a person when they appear before it.
Furthermore they claimed that the person’s image would not appear on the mirror were they to appear too close to it. Upon deep introspection a person’s skeleton would also be visible to the viewer. They claimed that the mirror had radioactive substances that could activate bulbs it is connected to and was used by scientists in NASA.
Avinash came in touch with the trio through a mutual acquaintance. They posed to be employees of a renowned company in Singapore that specialises in dealing with antiquities. They offered him the mirror for the cost of Rs 2 crore. They even arranged meetings with people who they alleged were previous buyers of this product.
The trio had already collected Rs 9 lakh from Avinash and asked him to come to Bhubaneshwar to collect the mirror. He realised during his meeting that he was being conned and filed a complaint in the Nayapalli police station after which the trio were apprehended. A car, mobiles containing the video of the magic mirror, Rs 28,000 and a fake document pertaining to the mirror were seized from the accused.
