Bidadi, integral part of Greater Bengaluru-Bidadi Smart City Project (GBDA): Urban Development Department

In a significant stride toward urban development, the Urban Development Department has issued an order designating Bidadi, a prominent industrial area in the Ramanagara district, as an integral part of the Greater Bengaluru-Bidadi Smart City Project (GBDA). This announcement marks a strategic shift, wherein the former Bidadi Smart City Planning Authority undergoes a rebranding.

The order, dated November 18, mirrors the vision of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who recently, at an event hosted by Toyota, proclaimed the Bidadi Smart City project as an extension of the Greater Bengaluru initiative. This decision aims to infuse fresh impetus into the ambitious smart city endeavour.

To spearhead the implementation of this transformative project, the Commissioner of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) has been appointed as the Head of GBDA, underscoring the critical need for seamless coordination in realizing the vision.

The Bidadi Smart City scheme, initially conceptualized by the government in 2006, envisioned the development of a smart city across 10 thousand acres, encompassing 29 villages of Bidadi hobali.

However, due to various challenges, the plan faced stagnation for the past 8 years. The recent announcement signals a new beginning for the project, now rebranded as the Greater Bengaluru-Bidadi Smart City Project, with the anticipation of overcoming previous obstacles and realizing the original vision of creating a technologically advanced and sustainable urban centre.

As the Greater Bengaluru-Bidadi Smart City Project undergoes a change in leadership and direction, it stands poised to emerge as a transformative force, fostering economic growth, innovation, and elevated living standards in the region.
