In the wake of India’s announcement of a seven-member delegation to engage with the global community following the escalation from Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has also appointed Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former foreign minister, to lead its own international peace mission.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the decision to appoint Bilawal for this important task, with the PPP Chairman confirming the news on social media. Bilawal shared that he was contacted by the Prime Minister earlier and has accepted the responsibility to represent Pakistan’s case for peace on the international stage. He expressed his commitment to serving Pakistan in these challenging times.
Following the appointment, a high-level committee has been set up under Bilawal’s leadership, which includes prominent figures such as former foreign ministers Khurram Dastgir Khan and Hina Rabbani Khar, as well as former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani. This delegation is tasked with advocating for regional peace and managing Pakistan’s diplomatic response to the situation.
Just hours earlier, India revealed its own diplomatic outreach plan. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs announced that Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and NCP MP Supriya Sule, among others, would lead seven delegations to key international destinations to brief foreign governments on India’s stance regarding Operation Sindoor. These teams aim to counter escalating tensions and ensure India’s position is effectively communicated across the globe.
