Amidst the growing political battle ahead of the Lok Sabha election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) alliance is contemplating throwing in a surprise candidate into the fray. D.K Suresh who was the lone Member of Parliament (MP) from the Indian National Congress (INC) in the 2019 Lok Sabha election might face a challenge from former Prime Minister H.D Deve Gowda's son-in-law Dr C.N Manjunath.

Reports also suggest that he might be given the ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) instead of the JD(S) in the Bengaluru Rural constituency. Speculations that the reason for contesting from the BJP is that were he to contest from the JD(S), a tag of family politics would stick to him are making rounds. Both parties have a considerable amount of ground presence in the Bengaluru Rural district.

Dr C.N Manjunath is also from the Vokkaliga community. Bengaluru Rural has a high concentration of voters from the Vokkaliga community. He is well regarded in the field of medicine and is also popular among people. He would be making his debut in politics. Whether this plan would materialise remains to be seen.
