A recent parliamentary delegation visit to the US, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as part of post-Operation Sindoor outreach, has reportedly been marred by a diplomatic controversy involving a young BJP MP. According to media reports cited by Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, the BJP MP allegedly bypassed diplomatic protocols in an attempt to meet former US President Donald Trump, leaving him embarrassed and sparking backlash.

If this news report of the BJP MP’s immature approach is accurate, it is nothing short of disgraceful.
Serious questions must be answered:
•How did a sitting MP bypass all established diplomatic protocols to meet a former head of state?
•Was the Ministry of External Affairs… pic.twitter.com/eOwJ6NAeTW

Kharge, in a scathing post on X, questioned the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) about the breach and called the act “disgraceful” and an “insult to India’s institutional integrity.” He demanded accountability and criticised the Centre for double standards in diplomatic clearances, citing his own denied permission to attend a convention in the US earlier this year.
The delegation included MPs from multiple parties, including BJP, Shiv Sena, JMM, and TDP, and former envoy Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The MEA has not issued a statement on the incident.
