The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to return to power in Delhi after 27 years, dealing a significant blow to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). As counting progresses, BJP is leading in 46 seats, while AAP lags behind with 24 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva celebrated the party’s victory by sharing sweets with party leaders, marking the end of AAP’s dominance in the capital. The results indicate a sharp decline in AAP’s popularity, raising questions about whether Arvind Kejriwal’s national ambitions cost him the state.
This victory adds to BJP’s recent winning streak in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, solidifying its political stronghold ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s campaign in Delhi focused on governance issues, corruption allegations against AAP, and a shift in voter sentiment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi this evening, where he is expected to highlight the party’s resurgence in the capital.
With this historic comeback, BJP is set to reshape Delhi’s political landscape, while AAP faces introspection over its steep decline from a landslide victory in 2020 to a significant electoral setback in 2025.
