Allegations of a 10-12% payment cut from the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS) Vendors Association by officials for bills which are due prompted an enquiry. In November 2023, Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and IT-BT (Information Technology-Biotechnology) Minister Priyank Kharge talked about a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that indicated losses amounting to Rs 48 crore due to the procurement of goods at inflated rates. Keonics Vendors Association president Vasant Bangera had offered a defence stating that the variation was due to costs of transport, installation and extended periods of warranty. 

The Karnataka government has constituted an inquiry committee headed by a retired Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer to probe irregularities in the KEONICS. “There have been 45 audit objections raised by the Comptroller & Auditor General between 2018-19 & 2022-23. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government procured IT peripherals at escalated costs ranging from 38% to 1577%. When it came to procurement, BJP was 400% Sarkara, not 40% Sarkara. A mere 3% audit has revealed misappropriation of over ₹430 Cr. No wonder BJP relies heavily on religious issues to divert public attention from their misdeeds,” Priyank Kharge stated on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).
