One key aspect of New Zealand’s triumph over England was Rachin Ravindra’s all round performance that included a wicket and an unbeaten century. His connection to India however precedes the world cup. His origins can be traced to Bengaluru wherein New Zealand’s games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled.

His father Ravi Krishnamurthy is a software engineer from Bengaluru. His grandfather Dr. T.A Balakrishna Adiga taught biology in Vijaya College & at BASE, Basavanagudi. His father is an avid cricket enthusiast. Rachin is even named as an amalgamation of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. He would conduct annual tours across India as a cricket coach even after having settled in New Zealand. Rachin had also participated in such tours.

“Prior to this World Cup, I have played in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, up North. It gives you a bit of sense of belonging and calms you down knowing you have played here. Grateful for these tours of India in my younger days. Goes a long way in playing spin and how to bowl in these conditions, facing different types of seamers on different wickets,” Rachin recollected in an interaction with The Times of India

Rachin was on a similar tour in Bengaluru during New Zealand’s heartbreaking loss in the 2019 final to England. “It is actually quite a story. My dad takes a bunch of age group boys to India (annually) and we were in Bangalore on a senior trip. We were watching the final (2019) in a stock exchange bar,” Rachin said.
