Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced a revised ticket pricing structure following strong public backlash over the recent fare hike. The decision comes after complaints from commuters that metro fares had nearly doubled, significantly impacting daily travel expenses.

The fare increase had sparked widespread criticism, prompting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to direct BMRCL officials to review the pricing structure, especially as passenger numbers saw a decline. In response, BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao held an urgent press conference to clarify the fare adjustments.
Rao stated that the last metro fare revision took place in 2010 and that the decision to increase fares was based on a four-year study by the fare-fixing committee. He maintained that the price hike was necessary to fund metro screen doors and additional coaches, ruling out any rollback of the overall 46% fare increase.
However, BMRCL acknowledged discrepancies where fares had jumped unexpectedly. Rao assured passengers that such anomalies would be corrected immediately. A new fare slab is set to be implemented from tomorrow, with revised ticket prices reflecting a structured increase of 46%, rather than arbitrary jumps. The minimum fare remains ₹10, while the maximum is now ₹90.
BMRCL reiterated its commitment to serving commuters efficiently and ensuring fair pricing while maintaining metro infrastructure improvements.
