In response to recent incidents of passengers accidentally falling or jumping onto Metro tracks, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced plans to install platform screen doors (PSDs) at two of its busiest stations. The chosen locations are the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange at Majestic and Sir M Visvesvaraya (Central College) Station, both selected for their high passenger footfall.

The Majestic Interchange, one of Bengaluru’s busiest transit hubs, sees over 2.7 lakh passengers daily, many of whom switch trains at the station. BMRCL stated that retrofitting existing stations with PSDs is a complex and time-consuming process that requires careful execution due to safety concerns. To ensure the installation is carried out smoothly, BMRCL plans to hire experienced firms specializing in such retrofits.
BMRCL also revealed plans to include PSDs in upcoming Metro lines, particularly those designed for unmanned trains, such as the airport line. Adequate funding is being sought for these new projects.
Additionally, the corporation is focusing on improving last-mile connectivity by collaborating with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), which currently operates 178 buses from 38 Metro stations, providing nearly 2,400 trips daily. In response to concerns about limited parking facilities, BMRCL reported that 53 stations currently offer parking for over 17,000 vehicles.
BMRCL also aims to popularize the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for multiple transit modes, working towards its integration with BMTC services.
