In a move to ease commuting for IT employees in Bengaluru, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), in partnership with the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA), launched a free-of-cost electric feeder bus service between Silk Institute Metro Station and the Electronic City area. This new service, inaugurated on Monday, will operate three daily trips to connect the East and West phases of the Electronic City township.

This initiative, aimed at improving last-mile connectivity for employees in the Electronic City region, is expected to reduce reliance on private vehicles and promote eco-friendly transportation. With many IT employees residing in South Bengaluru, demand for convenient public transport has been rising, especially for those commuting to one of India’s largest IT hubs.
The concept of feeder buses is not new to this route. Since 2021, ELCITA has been running four feeder buses from its fleet after the Silk Institute Metro Station became operational. ELCITA officials report that approximately 150-180 passengers use these services daily. With BMTC now joining the initiative, ridership is anticipated to increase to around 300 commuters per day.
Additionally, ELCITA has proposed six more feeder routes, including connections from Konappana Agrahara and Infosys Metro Stations, to further enhance accessibility along the Yellow Metro line.
