Despite the imposition of a Rs 25 toll fee in addition to the Rs 35 fare, the recently launched BMTC bus service linking Madavara and Electronics City via NICE Road is experiencing robust usage from commuters.

This service covers approximately 40km within just one hour and 10 minutes, a stark contrast to the nearly three hours typically required via city routes. Daily, an estimated 7,000 passengers opt for this service.

Compared to other toll routes, BMTC passengers bear the highest charge for utilizing buses on NICE Road. Nonetheless, BMTC officials note a consistent rise in patronage over the months, with occupancy rates reaching 70%. Presently, the corporation operates 21 buses along this route, facilitating 178 trips, some originating from locations like Vijayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar.

This surge in usage underscores the public’s preference for time-saving and congestion-free travel, even at the expense of an additional Rs 25 toll charge. BMTC has ensured a frequency of approximately 15 minutes for these buses, strategically placing stops at each junction where NICE intersects other highways, thus enhancing accessibility.

As traffic congestion continues to escalate on city routes, BMTC buses struggle to cover a maximum operational distance of 200 km per day. In contrast, each bus on NICE Road covers approximately 360 km daily.

BMTC is actively engaging with NICE authorities to alleviate the toll burden on passengers.
