In a dramatic incident near Yeshwantpur, a BMTC bus conductor’s swift response saved over 50 passengers after the bus driver suffered a fatal heart attack mid-journey.
The bus, en route from Nelamangala to Yeshwantpur, was carrying more than 50 passengers when the driver, identified as Kiran, began experiencing chest pain. Kiran, 39, was a dedicated driver from BMTC Depot 40 and reported for duty as usual. Tragically, as he suffered pain, he collapsed at the wheel, rendering him unable to control the vehicle.

Observing the situation, conductor Oblesh immediately sprang into action. He quickly maneuvered to halt the moving bus, preventing what could have been a catastrophic accident. His prompt response ensured that all passengers remained unharmed. Footage from the bus’s CCTV captured the harrowing moment of Kiran’s collapse, which served as a poignant reminder of the risks drivers face daily.

Chief Traffic Manager GT Prabhakar Reddy praised Oblesh’s presence of mind, announcing an award for his life-saving efforts. “We will be honouring the conductor at the BMTC office on November 7 (tomorrow),” Reddy shared via News First.
BMTC buses, often scrutinized for their safety record, saw a moment of heroism through the actions of conductor Oblesh, a timely reminder of the dedication among its staff.
