The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has raised bus pass prices, effective Thursday, citing rising operational costs. Daily passes for ordinary buses now cost ₹80, up from ₹70, while monthly passes have increased from ₹1,050 to ₹1,200.

Weekly passes have also been revised, climbing from ₹300 to ₹350. For NICE Road users, monthly passes now cost ₹2,350, a ₹150 hike. Vajra AC bus fares have seen a notable rise, with daily passes priced at ₹140, up from ₹120, and monthly passes increasing from ₹1,800 to ₹2,000. Similarly, Vayu Vajra AC bus passes for airport commuters have risen to ₹4,000, compared to the previous ₹3,755. Students using AC buses face a ₹200 increase, with monthly passes now costing ₹1,400.
This fare revision aligns with the Karnataka government's decision to hike fares for all state-run transport services, including KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC, from January 5. BMTC's fare structure had remained unchanged since 2015, despite significant rises in diesel and staff costs.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy highlighted the impact of soaring diesel prices, which have surged from ₹60.90 per litre in 2015 to over ₹90 per litre. BMTC's daily diesel expenses have increased from ₹9.16 crore to ₹13.21 crore, while staff-related costs have risen from ₹12.95 crore to ₹18.36 crore.
The government emphasized that the fare adjustment is essential to alleviate financial strain on state transport corporations.
