Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has upgraded its Namma BMTC mobile app, now allowing passengers to track over 5,200 buses in real time. A BMTC official reportedly stated that the previous version supported real-time tracking for 3,000 buses, and the new update significantly expands its coverage. The app, introduced 1.5 years ago, has crossed 10 lakh downloads despite earlier complaints about inconsistent tracking data.

KSRTC to implement real-time bus monitoring

Meanwhile, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to roll out a vehicle tracking and monitoring system (VLTS) across its fleet. The initiative involves installing tracking devices and panic buttons in 7,207 buses to improve service efficiency and passenger safety.

KSRTC has floated a tender for the project, which is funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The corporation is also planning a mobile app to provide real-time bus updates.

VLTS will help monitor schedules, detect speeding, route deviations, and ensure buses stop at designated locations. It will also aid in responding to passenger emergencies.

Both initiatives aim to enhance Bengaluru’s public transport network, making commutes more efficient and reliable.
