Boeing has laid off around 180 employees at its Boeing India Engineering Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru as part of a global workforce reduction strategy. The layoffs, which occurred in the December quarter of 2024, are part of a broader plan to cut approximately 10% of the company's global workforce.

The aerospace giant described the move as a “strategic adjustment” aimed at optimizing operations while ensuring no disruption to customer service, government projects, or safety standards. Reports indicate that while some positions were eliminated, new roles have been created in other areas as part of Boeing’s restructuring efforts.
India, which remains a critical hub for Boeing’s global operations, has seen a more measured reduction in workforce compared to other regions. The company continues to emphasize operational excellence and customer support despite the job cuts.
Boeing employs around 7,000 people in India, with nearly 6,500 working at its engineering centers in Bengaluru and Chennai. BIETC plays a crucial role in advanced aerospace engineering and innovation, supporting Boeing’s global operations.
The company’s fully owned engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru, inaugurated in January 2024, is one of its largest investments outside the United States. Despite the workforce reductions, Boeing remains committed to expanding its presence in India’s aerospace sector.
