Amid heightened tensions following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, significant developments have unfolded along the India-Pakistan border. In anticipation of any possible conflict, farmers in Indian border states have completed the wheat harvest earlier than usual. Officials confirmed that wheat crops across approximately 3310 kilometres along the India-Pak border covering states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir have been fully harvested.

With fears rising over a potential military clash, farmers were advised by government officials to expedite the harvesting process to prevent crop loss in case of escalated hostilities. Responding to this advisory, farmers swiftly harvested their fields, particularly in areas directly adjacent to the Pakistan border.

According to Agriculture Commissioner Praveen Kumar Singh, Punjab saw the most extensive wheat harvesting along the border compared to other states. Rajasthan has also reported the completion of its wheat harvest. While detailed data on the total yield from border regions is not available, officials stated that the harvest has been satisfactory overall.

This preemptive measure reflects both the agricultural sector’s adaptability and the seriousness of the geopolitical situation, as both countries remain on edge following recent violent incidents.
