In a tragic incident from Chintamani taluk in Karnataka, a six-year old boy named Yeshwant has permanently lost vision in his right eye after a classroom injury allegedly caused by a teacher. The incident took place on March 6 at a government school. The teacher attempting to discipline the students reportedly threw a stick that hit Yeshwant in the eye. Initially, the injury seemed minor, and his parents did not realize its severity.

As Yeshwant’s condition worsened, his parents sought medical help. He was first taken to an ophthalmologist in Chintamani, then referred to the district hospital. Later, two surgeries were performed at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru but they failed to restore his vision. A private hospital eventually confirmed that the boy had lost complete sight in his right eye.
Outraged, the family and local residents protested outside the Batlahalli police station, prompting the registration of an FIR. The teacher and five others, including education department officials, have been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Juvenile Justice Act. Investigations are ongoing, and further action will follow based on evidence and medical findings.
