Father asked boy not to spend too much time on cellphone
Boy was frustrated over the suggestion
He pulled the trigger thrice, killing father, sister and mother
In a shocking incident in Sao Paulo, a 16-year-old Brazilian boy shot and killed his parents and sister after becoming upset over his father taking his cellphone away, police said. The tragic event occurred on Friday but came to light on Monday when the boy called the police and confessed.
The local security ministry stated that the boy, who is adopted, grew “very frustrated” after his parents confiscated his phone following an argument. According to Investigation Chief Roberto Afonso, the teen accessed his father’s service gun, a municipal policeman’s weapon, and shot him in the back. He then went upstairs and fatally shot his 16-year-old sister in the face. Several hours later, when his mother returned home, he killed her with the same gun.
The victims were identified as the father, 57, and the mother, 50. Afonso mentioned the need to determine if the boy’s actions were related to any psychological disturbances. Police are also investigating if anyone else was involved or if the boy communicated with someone on the phone before the incident.
The teen remained in the house with the bodies from Friday until his arrest on Monday. During this period, he visited the gym and a bakery. On Saturday, still “angry,” he stabbed his mother’s corpse with a knife, Afonso said. The boy displayed a “cold” demeanour when discussing the crimes and is currently held at a juvenile detention center.
Under Brazil’s special legislation for minors, the boy cannot be tried as an adult.
