  • BCCI cites player safety, especially of foreign players
  • No new dates announced; all matches suspended

In light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India has decided to indefinitely postpone the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The remainder of the tournament, which was scheduled to continue until May 25 has now been suspended due to growing concerns over national security and the safety of the players.

The decision comes after yesterday’s match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Dharamshala was abruptly halted midway. Citing the heightened threat environment and uncertainty surrounding the current situation, the BCCI stated that it is not in a position to take any risk regarding the safety of the players, especially the foreign cricketers in the league.

Officials emphasized that the decision was made purely out of precaution, as the board does not want to compromise on security during such a sensitive time. All remaining fixtures have been called off, and no new dates have been announced yet. The indefinite postponement means that the tournament will not resume until the situation stabilized and a safe environment can be ensured.

This is the first time in recent years that the IPL has been disrupted to this extent due to geopolitical tensions, underlining the seriousness of the current scenario.
