Brinda Karat prevented from meeting affected women in Sandeshkhali; ‘How can this be a conspiracy,’ she asks

Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) Politburo Member Brinda Karat was stopped from visiting the victims in Sandeshkhali wherein allegations of serial sexual assault are being made against Trainamol Congress (TMC) strongman Shahjahan Shiekh. “It is a very serious matter. It is a serial sexual harassment which has been going on for so long. These are poor women whose land is also being taken away... How can this be a conspiracy? The women are complaining and giving statements, how can we say that it is a conspiracy without any investigation?... You are saying it is a conspiracy to save your people…We came here to meet the women because they had called us. They claimed that they were called to the TMC office and TMC goons assaulted them sexually. The Kolkata High Court lifted section 144 yesterday. When we reached here, the police said that the peace would be disrupted...This is unacceptable,” Brindra Karat said. 

Shahjahan is currently absconding after Enforcement Directorate Officials clashed with his supporters during an investigation of a ration scam in January. “I have never supported injustice. No woman has filed an FIR. I told the police to register a case. Our block president was arrested. How many BJP leaders have been arrested in such cases,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated after criticism from multiple ends over the incident.
