In the aftermath of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, security forces have ramped up combing operations across Kashmir. A joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police turned violent on Wednesday in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, resulting in the martyrdom of an Indian Army soldier.

Acting on specific intelligence about terrorist hideouts in the region, BSF and police units launched a coordinated search early in the morning. During the operation, a fierce gunfight erupted. One soldier sustained critical injuries and, despite urgent medical attention, succumbed on the way to the hospital.
The terrorists involved in the exchange managed to flee, prompting a continued search effort across the surrounding areas. Authorities believe the militants may still be hiding in nearby forested terrain, and combing operations remain active.
This escalation comes just two days after the Pahalgam tragedy on April 22, when terrorists ambushed a group of tourists, killing 26, including three from Karnataka. The attack has sparked national outrage, with citizens and officials demanding a strong response to the senseless violence.
Security forces have since intensified counter-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace in the region.
