Shaw, while on operational duty in the Ferozepur sector along the India-Pakistan border, had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory nearly three weeks ago. The incident occurred on April 23, following which he was detained by the Pakistan Rangers.

According to the BSF, Shaw’s crossover was unintentional and happened during routine duties in a sensitive border zone. The BSF had immediately initiated communication with its Pakistani counterparts seeking his safe return through established flag meeting channels.

After sustained diplomatic and military-level engagement, the BSF announced that Shaw was handed over at the border today. Medical examinations and debriefings will follow his return, as is standard procedure in such cases.

The force expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts that led to his repatriation and assured that necessary steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Cross-border inadvertent crossings by personnel occur occasionally in the tightly guarded yet complex terrain along the border. While such situations are typically resolved peacefully, each instance involves careful coordination between the two nations’ border forces.

The BSF reiterated its commitment to the welfare and safety of its personnel deployed in challenging border areas.
