Starlink clarifies India pricing glitch: ₹8,600 monthly & ₹34,000 equipment were test values, final tariffs await govt approval

Satellite internet provider Starlink has clarified that it has not yet announced official pricing for its services in India, after figures briefly visible on its website sparked speculation about launch costs.

On Monday, visitors to the site noticed a residential tariff of around ₹8,600 per month and equipment priced near ₹34,000. The appearance of these numbers led to assumptions that Starlink was preparing to roll out services in the country at those rates. However, the company later explained that the figures were dummy test values accidentally exposed due to a configuration error.

Starlink confirmed that its India website is not live and that it is not accepting orders from customers in the country. The company emphasized that final pricing will only be revealed once it secures the necessary government approvals to operate commercially.

Industry analysts noted that if Starlink’s eventual pricing falls within the range of the test values, the service would likely cater to niche segments such as remote or underserved regions. They argued that such tariffs would be too high for masss entry remains contingent on regulatory clearances, with pricing and rollout timelines yet to be finalized.
