As part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has launched an ambitious green initiative titled “Green Path - Water’s Future,” aimed at planting 60,000 saplings across the city. The campaign was inaugurated at the GKVK campus on Monday by BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar, who kickstarted the effort by symbolically planting 60 different varieties of saplings.

Speaking at the event, Manohar emphasized the deep connection between greenery, water conservation, and ecological balance. “A green environment is essential for both water conservation and ecological balance. Citizens must contribute by planting trees in their surroundings to make our city greener and more beautiful,”he said. He also mentioned that BWSSB plans to transform unused land parcels under its jurisdiction into green zones.

Inspired by World Environment Day, the campaign will span an entire year, aiming to plant and nurture 60,000 trees across various locations in Bengaluru. The BWSSB is calling on bulk water consumers, such as apartment complexes, industries, educational institutions, and tech parks to actively participate. These groups are encouraged not only to plant trees within their premises but also to take responsibility for maintaining them in the long term.

To ensure wide-scale involvement, BWSSB has directed all of its divisional offices and field units to lead by example and initiate local tree plantation drives within their operational zones. The initiative seeks to promote community involvement, reinforce environmental responsibility, and highlight the role greenery plays in securing the future of water resources.
