  • Mohammed Shami ordered to pay Rs 4 lakh per month to ex-wife and daughter
  • Amount to be paid retrospectively from the past seven years
  • Court considered Shami's income and child's education while passing the order

The Calcutta High Court has directed Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh to his former wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter. The court's decision significantly increases the earlier maintenance amount set by a district court in 2023, which had directed Shami to pay Rs 1.3 lakh per month.

As per the High Court’s order, Shami must pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh per month to their daughter. Importantly, the court also instructed that the payments be calculated retrospectively from the past seven years, indicating a substantial financial obligation.

The decision was based on multiple factors, including Shami’s financial capacity, his annual earnings, and the cost of his daughter’s education. The court noted that Hasin Jahan had not remarried and is raising the child independently. The lifestyle she was accustomed to before the divorce, as well as the future needs of the child, were also taken into account while determining the alimony.

While the ruling has sparked mixed reactions among fans, some expressing sympathy for Shami, stating that the sum is excessive, the court emphasized that the order is fair, considering Shami’s substantial income as a professional cricketer.

Hasin Jahan expressed gratitude to the court, stating that the ruling would finally allow her to provide a better future for her daughter, including access to quality education, which was not previously affordable.
