The film was scheduled to release on December 15th
Release of Salaar and Dunki on Christmas could be reason for delay
Dhanush and Shiva Rajkumar would play the role of rebels who take on the colonial forces
Despite having minimal screen presence, Shiva Rajkumar’s performance in Jailer won him fanfare across the Tamil audience as well. This had increased anticipation for Dhanush-starrer Captain Miller which would feature him in a more full fledged role, among both Tamil fans and Kannada fans who were looking forward to catching the star in yet another action packed role. However, an announcement from Sathya Jyothi Films that the initial release date of December 15th has been further pushed to Pongal 2024 might have been a bummer for the fans.
Our #CAPTAINMILLER is all set for a grand Release this PONGAL / SANKRANTI 2024 😎#CaptainMillerFromPongal#CaptainMillerFromSankranti @dhanushkraja @ArunMatheswaran @NimmaShivanna @sundeepkishan @gvprakash @priyankaamohan @SathyaJyothi pic.twitter.com/xE43r89EEQ

From a production point of view however, a Pongal release is also indicative of confidence as it is booked by leading stars. There are speculations that the release of two big films, Prabhas-starrer Salaar and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki on Christmas could be a potential reason for the delay. In Pongal 2024, the film would still face competition from Rajnikanth-starrer Lal Salaam, Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Ayalaan and Sundar C-starrer Aranmanai 4. Many Telugu films have also scheduled their release on the same date. These include Mahesh Babu-starrer Guntur Karam, Venkatesh-starrer Saindhav and Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Family Star.
Captain Miller’s timeline would be set in the past. Dhanush and Shiva Rajkumar would play the role of rebels who take on the colonial forces.
