Tata Electronics, which acquired Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron for $125 million two years ago, is establishing a large-scale facility in Narasapura, expected to employ around 18,000 women. To meet the water requirements of the plant and nearby villages, the Karnataka government approved a detailed project report and sanctioned additional funds for water infrastructure.
The hostels will accommodate 6,000 women workers, with completion expected within 18 months. The Centre has already released ₹127 crore to Karnataka’s Single Nodal Agency for initial implementation.
Meanwhile, in a parallel development, Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn is set to begin iPhone production at its ₹21,911 crore facility in Devanahalli. The plant, spread over 300 acres, will include dormitories for 30,000 women and aims to create 50,000 jobs, further strengthening Karnataka’s position in electronics manufacturing.
