In a major development fulfilling a long-standing demand of Kannadigas, the Central Government has approved the establishment of a Postgraduate Degree Programme and a 300-bed Poly Trauma Centre at NIMHANS, Bengaluru. The initiative aims to enhance emergency medical care and specialist education in Karnataka.

The proposal, championed by Bangalore Rural MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath, received the green signal following sustained efforts over the past year. Dr. Manjunath maintained consistent communication with the Union Finance Ministry and also submitted formal requests to the Union Health Minister and concerned officials.
The Poly Trauma Centre, approved by the Central Finance Department, will provide critical care during the golden hour — the crucial period immediately following an accident. This is particularly vital as India records nearly 15% of global road accident deaths, with about 30% of cases involving multiple injuries requiring advanced trauma management.
The upcoming trauma facility is expected to be a game-changer for Bengaluru and surrounding areas by offering specialised, timely care to accident victims. It will also serve as a training and research hub for trauma care specialists through the new postgraduate programme.
The approval marks a significant step toward improving Karnataka’s healthcare infrastructure and aligns with the broader national objective of reducing fatalities due to road accidents.
