The Central government has directed the makers of the upcoming film Udaipur Files to implement six key modifications before it can be released for public or commercial screening. The directive follows a Delhi High Court order dated July 10, which led to the formation of a screening committee to evaluate the film’s content.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accepted the committee's report on July 19 and formally instructed the filmmakers to make the recommended changes. The film, inspired by the 2022 murder of Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli, has faced legal scrutiny over concerns related to religious sensitivity and geopolitical implications.
A detailed review process was conducted, with screenings held on July 17 and multiple meetings with stakeholders, including legal representatives of the petitioners, the filmmakers, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A representative from the Ministry of External Affairs also assessed the film to evaluate its impact on international relations.
Recommendations by the Screening Committee:
- Remove all references to the character “Nutan Sharma” and rename the character.
- Delete specific dialogues tied to religious texts, including: “…maine toh wohi kaha hai jo unke dharma grantho mein likha hai…”
- Remove an AI-generated scene featuring a Saudi Arabian-style turban.
- Delete the dialogues involving references to “Baluchi,” including derogatory remarks.
- Replace the existing disclaimer with a revised version and add a voice-over.
- Remove all credit frames thanking specific individuals.
