In a move to promote economic empowerment and inclusive mobility, Union Minister of State for MSME and Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje inaugurated a free auto-rickshaw driving training programme for women and transgender persons in Bengaluru on Saturday. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) in partnership with CGI, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) outreach.

The programme is designed to benefit over 100 participants by equipping them with driving skills, financial literacy, and support for sustainable livelihoods. The training spans 60 days and includes modules on road safety, life skills, and financial education. Participants will also receive assistance in obtaining driving licences, fuel subsidies, and access to vehicles through tie-ups with financial institutions.

Speaking at the event, Minister Karandlaje emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s broader commitment to “Nari Shakti” and gender-inclusive development. She also announced that the Union government is working on implementing four consolidated labour codes, including the Social Security Code, to ensure comprehensive benefits for the unorganised sector, which makes up nearly 90% of India’s workforce.

Senior executives from CGI, including Srividya Natraj and Sarika Pradhan, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative. They noted that beyond improving livelihoods, the project aims to make urban transport in Bengaluru more inclusive and gender-sensitive.
