  • Chahal was promised that RCB would pursue him
  • Chahal did not talk to coaches after auction
  • I played for India because of RCB: Chahal

RCB had retained Virat Kohli, Mohammad Siraj and Glenn Maxwell ahead of the mega auctions in 2022. The decision to let Chahal into the auction pool came as a shock to many given the suitability of the Bengaluru conditions to his style of bowling. Chahal went on to get the purple cap for that season further indicating a miscalculation from the management’s end. This has not been the first occasion when promising stars have been let off from the franchise. KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali,Quinton De Kock and Shane Watson are some of the names of cricketers who gave brilliant performances for other franchises after being let go, on many occasions in the very next season!

Chahal has reacted to this, on a podcast show with Ranveer Allahabadia. "When I put my name up for the auction, they promised me that they will go all out for me," Chahal told Ranveer Allahbadia's YouTube channel. "I said okay, but then I was very angry. I think I did not speak to the coaches for two-three days. Even when I played my first match for RR against RCB, I did not speak to anyone." "Definitely, I felt very bad. My main journey started in 2014. I also felt very weird because I played for the franchise for eight years," he said. "I would also say that I got the India cap because of my performances for RCB because they gave me a chance to perform. From the very first match, Virat bhai showed trust in me."
