The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu expanded on his plans to develop Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in a press conference held at the State Secretariat. He attacked the previous government led by Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy for not making progress in this regard. “After 10 years since its formation, the state still does not have a capital city. Investors who had originally planned to invest in Amaravati, the proposed capital city, have lost confidence. As a result, the brand image of Andhra Pradesh has suffered,” Chandrababu said.
Chandrababu Naidu explained the advantages of having Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh. He stated that Amaravathi is centrally located having 12 Lok Sabha constituencies on either side. “We need to restart the construction activity and talk to Singapore and other countries to implement the master plan. We need to restore investor confidence, rebuild the brand image, and revive the economy. This is the only way forward,” Chandrababu added.
Chandrababu laid out the various infrastructural changes needed to achieve this feat. He also threw light on the cost required to implement these changes. The infrastructural changes included laying power lines and constructing roads which are of the quality needed for a capital city. The total cost for this project is expected to be Rs 51,867 crore. Chandrababu affirmed that the Central Government is willing to provide Rs 2500 crore in this regard.
