OpenAI is organizing a developer gathering in Bengaluru in January 2024 to engage with Indian tech professionals on the subject of AI safety.

The event will feature OpenAI Vice President of Engineering, Srinivas Narayanan, and other product leaders. Anna Makanju, OpenAI’s Vice President of Global Affairs, expressed enthusiasm about convening developers in India to tackle challenging safety issues in artificial intelligence.

Makanju highlighted India’s significant talent pool and exceptional technology businesses, emphasizing the country’s critical role on the global stage.

At the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit in Delhi, she emphasized the importance of developing governance models for AI, referencing OpenAI’s collaboration with the Biden Administration and G7.

Makanju stressed the need for an international body to ensure the safety of powerful technologies and equitable distribution of benefits.

India, as the current chair of the GPAI, is working on a multi-country, consensus-based declaration on AI to mitigate risks and foster innovation. PM Modi, in a blog post on LinkedIn, affirmed India’s commitment to leveraging AI for the welfare of people, emphasizing the importance of a regulatory framework for Safe and Trusted AI implementation worldwide.
